The Algarve is built to keep you comfortable. That is rather the point of it. You arrive at a resort or a villa with a pool, a golf buggy, a breakfast that runs until eleven, and a spa menu folded neatly on the pillow. For a week or two, the temptation is to never quite leave the complex. Everything you could need has been arranged to be within a short, air-conditioned walk. It’s wonderfully easy to settle into holiday mode… and accidentally stay within a 500-metre radius all week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which is lovely, until you want a proper blow-dry before dinner, or a gel manicure that will survive ten days of sea and sunscreen. There is a whole coast of independent salons out there, and most visitors never see it.
